David, Thomas & Mia
David (6), Thomas (4) and Mia (3) entered foster care nearly 2 ½ years ago and earlier this year were placed with Wendy, a Next Step foster carer with considerable experience fostering sibling groups and children with particular health and behavioural needs. “When the children first arrived with me they were very wary of adults and new environments.
At 14, Sarah became homeless and was unable to attend school. Surviving on the streets completely eroded her self-esteem leading her to make a series of bad choices, before finding herself in foster care.
Michael is now 20 years old and was fostered by Next Step for 6 years during his teenage years. Michael had many challenges to face as he grew up and found these difficult to manage on occasions.
Kelly came to Next Step with her 9 month old twins for an assessment of her ability to look after her children and to escape from a violent relationship.
Ben has been in care for 8 years and is now 15. He had a difficult early life and struggled to achieve at school or to have good relationships with his peers. His foster carers however, have stuck by him and have shown to him that they care and support him in every way possible.
